In the gym!

October 13, 2011, 4:13 pm

HI everyone, I'm on a full-on fitness drive at the moment. Having signed up for a half-marathon (which I'll be doing in aid of the Paul Hunter Foundation) that will take place next spring in Sheffield, I've been working hard in the gym.

I never thought I'd actually say this, but I actually look forward to going to the gym now. I've lost about half a stone in the last couple of weeks or so and I'd like to shed a few more lbs.

I feel a lot healthier and wish I'd done this all before, to be honest. I certainly feel more alert in my decision-making and that can only help with the Premier League and the Shoot-out.

It's busy times at the moment and next week I'll be flat out, starting with a couple of days' exhibition play in Copenhagen. I'm off with Selby, Davis and Williams and after the intensity of all these recent tournaments, it will be enjoyable to pick up my cue and play in a  little bit more light-hearted fashion. I've only been through Copenhagen before - as in stopped at the airport - so it will be good to see a new place, as well.

Then it's bact to Exeter for some Premier League action on the Thursday before flying out to Killarney in Ireland for another PTC event.

Speaking of the PTCs, I think I'm about 27th or something in the race to qualify for the Grand Finals in Dublin. The top 24 get to qualify and that's a big goal for me as next year I really want to go over and defend the title I won in the spring. The rankinings don't lie but on the playing front, I've been pretty consistent since the Shanghai Masters where I was pipped 5-4 by Selby.

In the last two PTCs I made the quarter-finals and my solid form is largely down to the fact I've been practising very hard since about three months ago moving back to my old base, the Sale Conservative Club.

It won't be long now until two of our majors, the UK Championship and the Masters, which come in pretty quick succession either side of Christmas. I'm aiming to have my game in tip-top shape for them - fingers crossed!
