SHAUN Murphy made a sensational 147 as he stormed to title glory in the Kreativ Dental Ruhr Open in Mulheim tonight.
The Magician landed his fourth tournament success of 2014 with an emphatic 4-0 triumph over Robert Milkins.
He made a maximum – his third of the year – in the second frame after clinching the opener with a run of 66.
Shaun had the crowd on the edge of their seat as he rolled home a brilliant 15th black with a sublime cut to the right-hand bottom pocket.
The pace of the shot matched the pot as he landed perfectly on the yellow before completing the colours clearance to trigger a standing ovation.
What made the feat all the more extraordinary was that he had twice come agonisingly close to 147s earlier in the day.
He missed the final blue off its spot during a 4-3 last-16 win over Joe Swail and then left the last green in the jaws en route to beating Mark Williams 4-2 in the quarter-finals.
In what was a thrilling day all round for the cueman, Shaun’s best performance was arguably the way he turned around his last-four encounter with Judd Trump.
Trailing 0-3, Murphy somehow bounced back with a rare display, combining guts and skill in equal measures.
The final proved relatively straightforward and he kept his composure well in the wake of what might have been a distracting 147. Instead, he compiled a 62 to stretch his lead to 3-0 and then a break of 58 helped him to close out the match and land the 25,000Euros first prize.
Shaun made eight centuries over the weekend and this win made it back-to-back European Tour wins following victory in Bulgaria. His two other 2014 successes came at the Gdynia Open and the World Open.
Shaun said: “This week could not have worked out better for me. I’ll go to next week’s UK Championship in York in good shape.”
