Re-think Engagement & Approaches to Learning
R.E.A.L. Education was formed in 2008 to support schools and local authorities by providing bespoke education for children and young people with special education needs (SEN) and behavioural, emotional and social difficulties (BESD).
This experienced and specialist provision aims to meet the needs of children and young people who may be “lost to learning”, at risk of exclusion from school, or who may already be out of school with a placement hard to identify.
Through collaborative working with partners and families across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, the organisation focusses on providing creative educational solutions for young people between the ages of five and 19, who have not fitted in easily to formal settings, by delivering stimulating and safe experiences with an emphasis on achieving accredited outcomes suitable for each young person’s needs and abilities.
Individually planned programmes encourage engagement and learning through one to one support, group work or vocational training opportunities in a variety of venues, ensuring that those who may struggle in mainstream provisions reach their full potential.
The R.E.A.L. Foundation Trust has been set up to support the work of R.E.A.L. Education, the R.E.A.L. Independent School and the R.E.A.L. Alternative Provision School, championing the students, and their families, to meet the challenges they may face along their educational journey, whilst encouraging their individual interests and strengths.
The Trustees will work closely with the R.E.A.L. management and staff team to assist them in their aims to stabilise the educational situation of their students and help to realise their ambitions and goals.
They will take an active role in the following duties:
- Help to create person-centred relationships
- Provide educational visits and activities, and community links to support learning
- Fund further education, employment or training opportunities through corporate partnerships
- Deliver stimulating, welcoming environments where students can learn, achieve and rebuild social and communication skills
- Safeguard and promote the psychological and emotional health and wellbeing of all R.E.A.L. children and students

"It doesn't get any more important than working with children - of any age, and the work that the Foundation Trust is doing is something very close to my heart. I can relate to some of the experiences and stories shared by the students.”
